I really wish I could be home for this. April 15th is a day that weighs heavily on me and to go home and see something about finally ending the gun violence that plagues my city would really lighten up that burden. I hope that this project will really zoom in on the fact that Chicago does not suffer from abundant school shootings because we do not have the demographic to support that. The gun violence in Chicago is frequent, even nightly sometimes. I remember a year ago me and my mom were crying because it was Christmas and it had been 6 days since there was a fatal shooting. That was so exciting to us, it truly felt like a gift from God. My teacher participated in a mural that reads "O Shot, 0 Killed Today in Chicago". The people on the south and west side have been conceptualizing a Chicago with no guns for ages. I really hope Victory Gardens acknowledges our work.
