I have always wanted to go to Coachella. To be in a place with so many great artist at one time. What was amazing about Coachella this year was Cardi B’s performance while she was pregnant. All of social media was going crazy about it. I think this shows the strength of woman hood and how a woman can be both successful in her career and have and start a family. So props to Cardi B. This article was all about the visual art at this festival. It is so cool how the best in the music industry was also surrounded by amazing visual and interactive installations. That allowed festival goers to interact with the arts in more than one medium all at the same time. The art instillations that were present in the middle of the California desert for this festival represented wide range of styles. The colorful building I think this the most interactive and it really alloys the experience of Coachella to transform at the will of the viewer based on their position in the tower and it also made some really cool Instagram photos.
Coachella is such an interesting environment to me. There has definitely been a shift in the music festival in the last couple of years to becoming a more commercial environment one for networking and social status along with including as much as humanly possible to show as the in crowd. Now that it's become this sort of place I think they have tried and create greater and more elaborate commonplaces and these art instillations act as great commonplaces for the different interactions at the festival. Another big part of it now a days with the wave of social media are these "social media stars" that go purely to fill their instagram feeds to show people their social status. And for Artists the musicians have turned into bigger and bigger names that are fail safe but these artists working in the instillation realm of the festival can be a little more under the radar while still retaining the large budgets and the massive global scale of the festival itself.
I found all of these sculptures to be incredibly inspiring and beautiful. I love that Coachella is not just a place for musicians to spread their art but for all artists to create, show, and inspire together. The first one mentioned in this article is such a stunning twist on historic architecture. I love the twist of being able to see through the large structures. It must be so amazing to stand beneath those three buildings. I also think that Spectra is massively beautiful and genius. I can only imagine what it is like to be inside, flooded by these strong colors as you can look across the terrain. It makes me wish we had more permanent structures like that in every city, especially in Pittsburgh. Looking at these structures also makes me question how long they stand for. Is it just for the period of the festival? Are they permanently there? Do they get moved, like toured, around the country?
