I think I want to dig more into this and do some more specific research about filters in the scene shop. I suffer from Asthma. I had it as a child, it went away and we thought all was good. Then in my 20’s it came back with a force more powerful than a soprano singing opera at the met. I need to be more vigilant in my daily routines to ensure that I am protecting myself from all the dust and dirt flying through the air in the scene shop and theatre. Ours is a dusty world. Reading this article is a good start but I would have liked to see more options than just one. I would also liked to have seen a deeper research into different filters that may work better in the shop. I think also too another factor is that in most cases, dust collectors don’t do the best job at collecting dust from the air, only from the ground or as part of the cutting process. Saw dust on the ground becomes more of a hazard when it becomes airborne to those who suffer from respiratory issue. Instead of looking at just filters, let’s throw in some dust collection units as a whole and review them, not just a couple of parts.
