Roland's feature-packed handheld recorder can be remote controlled with a smartwatch
newatlas.com: Though the ubiquitous smartphone can serve as a capable audio recorder, there are times when quality counts. Roland previewed a new high resolution handheld at CES in January, with multiple recording modes and the ability to control functionality using a smartphone or Apple Watch. Now the R-07 is on sale.

If money was no consequence, I'd buy this in an instant. In high school, every music teacher I had told me that recording yourself playing was the best practice tool. My problem was that I was recording myself on a really low quality phone microphone in tiny practice rooms and trying to hear the flaws in my playing. Half of playing the trumpet is producing a really clear warm tone. It's hard to tell (in a recording) how my tone is if the recoding I'm taking of myself is of terrible quality. I also had a couple of playing tests that definitely would have benefitted from a higher quality recording. Outside of music, I occasionally wish I had a compact recorder on hand to record cool sounds. My phone's crappy mic and limited storage space really inhibit my ability to be the sound junkie I know I am in my heart. This recorder seems like a really great investment for anyone.
I love reading about innovative products that set out to solve an issue facing consumers. This has the potential to be really groundbreaking for musicians, filmmakers, reporters, and other professions that need high quality audio recordings that are remote and wireless. I love how the smartwatch is able to control the device, because it does not even require the user to take out their phone which can be very helpful for reporters who want to get a high quality interview from a source and do not want to hold multiple devices. The ability to have it send the audio to bluetooth headphones while you are recording is also extremely useful. This creates a truly wireless experience that does not require content creators to carry around tons of wires to connect headsets and recorders. This fills a fascinating niche, and will hopefully be used by many artists and content creators in the future.
