"It Just Didn’t Occur to Me": Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg on Race
The Mary Sue: We have been very vocal about our disappointment about the latest season of Jessica Jones, especially in regard to the treatment of men and women of color. (Jeri was great though.) Thankfully, it hasn’t been just us and the criticism about the issue has been loud enough that it reached the ears of showrunner, Melissa Rosenberg.

I really enjoy the show Jessica Jones. In season one especially I found it extremely cathartic to watch a womxn like Jessica take down an abusive man who was terrorizing the city. Jessica reminded me of what female rage can be harnessed to do. I was okay with season 2. It was good, maybe a little overloaded in terms of story but overall, interesting. However I fell more and more in love with Malcom considering that I've aligned myself more with black masculinity. I was hurt by his story lines and how he was skimmed over by Jessica. I know it didn't occur to the show runners but now that it's been pointed out I need them to do better. If the show is about womxn than it has to be about all womxn, not just the womxn that are easily palatable. I want a show that's a collision of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones because I think black womxn deserve that.
