This story is incredibly timely and ironic given this weekend times of initiative that was launched in Hollywood. Clearly this was an issue of miscommunication on the part of the William Morris Endeavor, and since Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams are both clients of theirs. This article seems to indicate that the William Morris Endeavor packaged Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg in the film together and as such there should’ve been communication that Wahlberg was being paid $1.5 million and Williams was working for free. Wahlberg should not be considered at fault since what he was doing was in his self interest in negotiating the best deal possible, whereas Williams seem to be willing to work for free. The studio producing the film was trying to save as much money as possible and was not interested in giving out money for free to Williams that she wasn’t asking for. Clearly in this scenario the agents at the same company should’ve had an obligation to say from an optics perspective that Wahlberg getting paid so much more was not going to make the company or the actors themselves look good.
