UC Santa Cruz: UC Santa Cruz announced today that this will be the final season for Shakespeare Santa Cruz (SSC), the professional repertory company in residence at the campus.
The current season, the 32nd since the festival debuted on campus in 1981, will conclude this year following the annual holiday show in December.

It is really unfortunate to hear about Santa Cruz closing their doors. The name of Shakespeare Santa Cruz is fairly well known in california, or at least to those that I have worked with. Creating Shakespeare in the parks style performances do have their complications. I have worked with a small company in my home town that has been going on for the last couple years and has been gaining more support over the last couple of years. The company started by being privately funded and with the help of donations from various small businesses this last year was able to partner with our cities parks and rec department to build a new amphitheater to be home to the shakespeare company. Its unfortunate for santa cruz to have to end but at least UCSC will still keep a part of it running. Maybe Doc Chemmers can turn it around.
