Dancing Waters In Texas!

Theatre content from Live Design Magazine: Amarillo’s Palo Duro Canyon State Park serves as a stunning backdrop for Texas!, an outdoor drama that has run from June through August for the past 48 summers. After a nearby fire in 2011, the fireworks finale was put on hiatus, but audiences dwindled as a result. “Joe Batson, founder and donor, felt it was time to do something dramatically different to bring back the audience and respect our neighbors’ concerns,” says production manager Blaine Bertrand. Dancing fountains with projections were the solution.

That's pretty cool...I've seen stuff like this before in furniture stores and the like. It's a little old hat; not much goes in to these displays. An array of x number of pumps, a multiplexer, some LEDs and a basic computer software. But despite the simplicity these displays are beautiful, and set to music they're even more stunning. Combining them with live acting would be pretty cool too...especially since we don't like to combine water and theatre. Advances in automation make that totally possible though. I would love to see a show like that...

Wait. It does not really say what this is. So I'm assuming its LEDs under a fountain. I LOVE IT. Its like fireworks, but with water! But in all seriousness I love what is being done with combining LEDs with different elements to create instillation like art pieces. There was another article about a wall of bubbles with LED underneath to light them up, making patterns. I think i have the same comment for this article as I did for that one. These types of exhibits can be so much bigger. These can be their own beautiful art pieces. I would pay to see that.

I love this idea- it's a great and safe alternative to fireworks, and from the pictures it looks like it could be even cooler than fireworks if used correctly. At first I thought the caption meant that they were projecting directly on to the fountains, and although that's not what they're actually doing, I think that could be a really cool effect that should be explored more. Obviously the surface wouldn't work for detailed images, but you might be able to get a really cool effect using almost a wall of water and a projector

YAY TEXAS!!!!! I think that using new forms of media and materials for back grounds of light and such are always awesome ideas! This article does a very poor job of explaining anything about this except for the fact that its in texas and that it has to do with light and water. However i like Simone am assuming that the source of the light is coming form where the water is also coming form. I think the idea of mixing electricity is a daring idea because of the obvious electricity and water thing so involving those two aspects together successfully is always something to applaud.
