University/Resident Theatre Association Changes Format of Unified Auditions
Stage Directions: The University/Resident Theatre Association (URTA) has changed the format of their National Unified Auditions and Interviews in order to give more artists and schools the chance to interact. The changes include: no more screening auditions, every acting student will be seen by all the recruiters; satellite auditions, where acting candidates can auditions for schools who aren’t a part of URTA; nominations are no longer required for any of the disciplines, all interested students who will have completed an undergrad degree by the fall of 2014 are welcome; all design, technology and theatre management recruiting will be done only at the Chicago event; the URTA seminar program for those desiring continuing education credits during the event has been expanded.

I'm interested in seeing how these changes will influence the URTA process. I'd like to know how not having the screening policy for the final auditions will affect the people sitting through these auditions. Hopefully it'll help the process and give people more opportunities to be seen, but I can't help but think that it'll be exhausting for those watching. I like that they have consolidated all of the Design/Management auditions into one place and time. I think that this should give people the most opportunities to have their materials seen and reviewed. It does pose a little bit of a problem if someone isn't able to make that one time, but hopefully it'll all work out for the best.
