Pollstar: IATSE Local 30 must implement a safety training program as part of the agreement with Indiana’s deputy labor commissioner.
Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration levied the fine in February 2012 after finding three serious violations and a non-serious violation in connection with the accident.

While it's a little ridiculous that the union wouldn't pay such a (relatively) small fee for such a huge incident, I'm actually glad that the outcome of this settlement will lead to better, more thorough training for members of Local 30. I find it odd that those trainings have not been included in the standard training for new Local 30 members in the past. (I wonder if that is also the case for other IATSE locals.) It's a bit shocking that the union "would not concede its position"...was the union trying to say they weren't at fault? Obviously union employees were at least partially at fault for the incident. Whether or not it was union employees that made the call for the event to continue on despite the inclement weather, union employees were ultimately responsible for setting-up the equipment and did not carry out this responsibility properly. In the end, I'm just glad to hear that there are steps being taken in order for Local 30 members to receive more training so that such horrible incidents can be prevented in the future.
