Exuding Excellence

CMU: Two alumni, one honorary degree recipient, and one associate professor from Carnegie Mellon University took home Primetime Emmy Awards this year. Eleven CMU alumni were nominated in total, across the categories of acting, writing, producing, art direction, costumes and lighting — a reflection of the breadth and depth of education students receive in CMU's School of Drama.

What a great year it has been for us in awards land! This is great publicity for our school on that it not only showcases the kind of talent we attract and foster here, but also the variety of applications for it. We may be a drama school by name, but many of our graduates go on to very successful careers in film and tv, amusement parks, and many other fields outside of live theatre. This makes us a more interesting school for a prospective student to consider, knowing that we are renown in so many different sectors of entertainment, and that no matter what kind of performing arts they want to do, there is something for them here.

I love seeing how successful our CMU alums are after they leave Pittsburgh and take their talents to every part of the world. It's especially exciting to see success from within the school of drama. Each award that a CMU alum receives really projects the kind of students who work and create wonderful art at this superb school. When it comes time for us to graduate and work in the industry, we have a great pool of alumni to help us through the transition from school to work. Hopefully, in a few years my classmates and I will be the ones accepting Tony awards, drama desk awards, emmys, and oscars....let's hope!

Seeing things like this make my decision to come here so solid. These are the people who went to this school and now are off doing amazing things and winning awards for them. It's simply amazing to be a part of a community that has this much achievement that goes along with it. The fact that students I am in classes with now can one day be receiving these prestigious awards. It's a honor to be here and see these amazing things.
