THEATER REVIEW: The Old Man and The Old Moon at Writers Theatre in Glencoe (3 stars)
chicagotribune.com: PigPen Theatre Co., a group of handsome, musically talented young men who met at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, is certainly riding a forceful wave with an ensemble-forged piece of theatrical storytelling known as "The Old Man and The Old Moon." Writers Theatre, the Glencoe-based resident company that is, in essence, presenting a somewhat revised version of a hipster-friendly show that already played commercially in New York last season, might be well advised to send a note to its subscribers suggesting anyone with teenage daughters or granddaughters order an extra ticket. As it moves ahead with its plans for a new building, Writers could use such an injection of youth.

PigPen is such an inspiring company. To think that this show was created more than four years ago and continues to change constantly says a lot about the group. They can realize when they have something that people would like to see, such as the story of the play, but also understand that in order to wow the audience every time they need to be constantly revamping the show. The costumes, the props, the sets, the lights, the puppetry, all of these things undergo a re-conception every time the show goes into the workshop and it's ingenuity like this that keeps theater fresh and vibrant.
