SAG-AFTRA, IATSE Leaders Elected to Key AFL-CIO Committee

www.hollywoodreporter.com: SAG-AFTRA president Ken Howard and IATSE president Matt Loeb were elected last week to the AFL-CIO’s executive committee, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. They attained those positions as part of the slate put forward by AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka at the union’s convention held in Los Angeles last week.

Well it seems that I find out a little bit more about labor unions every time I read this page. I guess I am proud that a member if IATSE was elected to the executive board. It is also interesting to know that unions familiar to us get to be part of a national federation of unions. Upon looking it up the AFL-CIO has over fifty unions it works with. In the grand scheme of things, that is a ridiculous amount of workers and so I imagine the organization it takes to run a group of people that size must be well planned. Part of me wonders if belonging to such a large federation would have more pros or cons, however. Would you be more taken care of when you're part of a big alliance or more overlooked?
