Why I Stopped Watching Woody Allen Movies
Far Flungers | Roger Ebert: A few months back, on the heels of a scandal where someone was not punished for sexual assault in any way, a friend asked me what I felt would be an appropriate reckoning. “I at least want them to lose their job,” I said. “I want their lives to be disrupted, and I want others to see that if you do that to someone, your life is turned upside down, so you better not do that to someone.”

I've never actually watched a Woody Allen movie. By the time I was old enough to see these movies, I was already acutely aware of what Woody Allen had done because my mother always informed me about such things rather than pretending it wasn't happening. I have never felt that it was a loss that I hadn't gotten to see any of them. I've never felt like I was lacking any amazing art that I simply need to see.
My spending power has always been something that is really important to me because in such a capitalist society it is my best way of protesting. In this way I view my decision to not watch movies with accused men in them as a form of protest. Because I can't knock on their doors or call them like I could a state representative, the only place that I can hit them is the place that matters to them: their wallets.
