In ‘Suffs,’ a Theatrical Reminder That the Fight for Equality Is Eternal

KQED: In its two hours and 30 minutes, Suffs delivers more than a retelling of the American suffrage movement. Sure, its content might help a student check off a bullet point on a history class syllabus.

I must admit one of the reasons I clicked on this article is because my lovely roommate from last year is currently in the national tour of Suffs that this article is talking about. It is still so strange to me to see my friends in articles like this. A strange advantage of going to this school. Regardless of my personal sentiment towards this production, Suffs is an excellent reminder of our past history as Americans and what we can do when we band together. It is wildly unfortunate that the story rings so true today. The dichotomy of commercial theatre and enacting change is quite interesting to me and I think this production does a great job of inspiring people today while also being a commercial success. Hopefully this production moves people to first, get out and use their right to vote, and secondly, to think of what the American people can do to make our government a better place for all people.
