Event planning made Simple: Focus on purpose, flexibility and connection
The Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle: Event planning can feel intimidating, especially if you’re doing it for the first time. Between the timelines, budgets and endless Pinterest boards, it’s easy to be confused about where to start and how to accomplish everything in time. Planning an event, whether it’s a wedding, birthday party, or office celebration, doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

I like how this article simplifies events to smaller pieces. I know a lot of people panic when they are put in charge of planning or running large events as they don’t think they have the right skills to make the event special. My personal experience is that right out of undergrad I got a job as a public events manager. I explicitly used my stage management skills to justify being able to plan and organize large events with multiple components. I approach theatre the same way I approach those large public events because at the end of the day we are creating experiences for people and the small things that go awry may be the memorable part of the event that makes it extra special or it is going to be such a small detail that the audiences, guests, and sometimes the people doing the work don’t even know it happened.
I feel like one of the worst things you can do on any big event day is just freaking out because what you thought was going to hap[pen does not happen. And just as the article says even the best laid plans always have some issues that come up and throw a wrench into it just like a theatrical show. Which makes the best laid plans have multiple contingencies that can act on those wrenches and hopefully not bring the “event machine” to a halt. For those just starting out in event planning or suddenly planning their wedding or special event it is very overwhelming and it is really important to keep that in mind. As one of the big wedding site distributors I feel like their plan would be good but I wonder if there is a better one somewhere. The best goal for any event planning is making sure you get what you want out of it and not worrying so much about the extraneous parts.
