Broadway's Every Brilliant Thing Partnering With Mental Health Tech Non-Profit Project Healthy Minds
Playbill: Broadway's upcoming Every Brilliant Thing has partnered with mental health tech non-profit Project Healthy Minds on an initiative that will bring mental health support resources to audience members throughout the run. The partnership has been established to ensure the Duncan Macmillan-Jonny Donahoe play, which concerns suicide and suicidal ideation, is presented as responsibly as possible.

I love the idea of this partnership. I have written other comments where I talk about shows that deal with heavy topics. Because I think they are really important stories to tell but I do not think we can just go all the way into them without thinking about the audience. Some people believe that theatre is supposed to trigger people, it is supposed to be harsh and in their face but I think that can be harmful. I do think we should tell stories honestly but you also have to think about keeping the audience safe and that is what this is doing. I hope this is done well because I have been to events where it feels very in your face which in my experience also makes it unapproachable but I do not imagine this would be like that. I am excited to see a one man show and if I found myself in New York I would definitely go see this.
I found this article really interesting! In my opinion, it is extremely important that all art forms confront issues of their time. Expression is so important, and I think that it is actually what makes art in general so powerful. Lots of times these issues can be very heavy topics, even triggering some viewers. That shouldn't mean avoiding them fully though. I think that Every Brilliant Thing’s approach to this is great. They are still discussing the pressing topics, but in a sensitive way. I feel like they have really set a precedent for future broadway productions! They are showing their dedication to their audience and cast/crew members, by investing in their health! This is definitely a production that I would want to see and work on! Mental health is stigmatized lots of times in the entertainment industry, and Every Brilliant Thing is showing that it does not have to be that way!
