First off, I think the new trailer the San Francisco Ballet just put out is actually so cool. I really loved the strong and vibrant colors as well as the organic lines of dancers contrasted with the blocky type face used. I think it is great that San Francisco Ballet is working to get more audiences because they are an absolutely incredible ballet company. I was born in San Francisco and all of my extended family lives there and I grew up going to the San Francisco Opera house to watch the San Francisco Ballet’s performances of The Nutcracker every winter. It was always so magical to see and it is just so nostalgic. I've never really considered the fact that the San Francisco Ballet does more modern ballet performances and so I think this new branding will be especially helpful at expanding San Francisco Ballet’s overall image as not just something you see The Nutcracker at once a year but a company that you can see year round.
The San Francisco Ballet’s trailer reminds me why I need to be watching more ballet. I love the fluidity of their movements. I have seen videos recently of this photographer, who I forget the name of, doing photo shoots surrounding ballet. The ballet dancers in these shoots get into crazy positions for the split second the camera goes off, and they end up with beautiful photos that celebrate the dancers and their talents. In relation to this, the San Francisco Ballet did a similarly cool thing of combining modern media and technology with their presentation of ballet to appeal to a younger audience. I think the use of different colored lights and video effects makes the artistry more apparent, and definitely makes ballet feel more approachable to the general public. This is a good case of considering your audience as well. The choices in this trailer were very clear and effective.
