Colin Jost, Pete Davidson and the Staten Island Ferry Fiasco
The New York Times: At a Staten Island shipyard, workers were busy on a recent morning repairing the Cuauhtémoc, a Mexican Navy sailing ship that smashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in May, killing two crew members.
Docked nearby was a problem vessel of another kind: the Staten Island Ferry owned by Colin Jost and Pete Davidson.

First, I’d like to say that I think this is right on brand for Pete Davidson. He always fumbles things in a very arrogant, annoying way. But anyway, I love when the New York Times does pieces like this. Its very enlightening to see what completely stupid and unnecessary things the rich and famous are doing with all their free time. Its astounding to me that these guys can just shell out thousands and thousands of dollars every month for a piece of decaying metal that they once intended to turn into a nightclub/bar/event space that sounds like something Phineas and Pherb would come up with during their one hundred and four days of summer vacation. This story expertly demonstrates the importance of forethought. See, things like this happen to me on a smaller scale, like when I want to buy something online at 7pm on a Wednesday and then I think “why did I buy this” on Friday afternoon when I have to go pick it up from the mail room. I never realized that if I were rich, I could do that with boats! Thats crazy.
If I'm being completely honest this article was quite silly and made me laugh. I think that in theory an only ferry turned into a venue for restaurants, bars, and events is a cool idea, but something that would be very obviously incredibly difficult to accomplish. However it appears as though Collin Jost and Pete Davidson decided to give it a go anyways even though it is clearly a somewhat foolish endeavor. I Guess they're both very rich and so even though this was a very poor financial decision they'll be okay. This is a great example of "let's do it for the bit" and how thats a very diffrent scale for rich people than for normal ones. The only thing about this article that surprised me was not the fact that the two SNL cast members bought this stupid boat, which does not surprise me at all, it was that it was Collin Jost's idea not in fact Pete Davidson's.
This is genuinely so realistic for Pete Davidson and Colin Jost. This article is the perfect example of the weird things celebrities decide they want to to with their money in their free time. I feel like they were probably told how bad of an idea this was by someone and they definitely just did it anyway just because they could. They are both so rich so they will both be fine financially but this was generally just a stupid decision. I do think it is really funny though that this happened to Pete Davidson and Colin Jost because I just know this will be turned into a skit on SNL at some point, because they have to know how funny this is from an outside perspective, ALSO IT WAS COLINS IDEA. That’s even funnier because I know Scarlett Johansson definitely said something to him and he did it anyway, whether it was in support or telling him it was stupid, we will never know.
