This production sounds like my favorite moral dilemma around art taking the stage!! What’s crazy to me is to perform this, and in the same event, auction the canvases used. The fact that audience members are already prepared to pay such a high price for these goes to show that this production was, in fact, art, and moved them to a place where they give value to. I think that’s pretty amazing. Especially given the state of current healthcare and food accessibility in the US, donating to generous groups like this isn’t just appreciated, it’s mandatory.
We have to come together as a community to support each other when we cannot depend on our leaders. I don’t think I understand the strict timeline to the production of ART being limited to 17 weeks, but that means at least 8 weekends of auctions. Based on their first, if similar price points can be anticipated for these canvases each auction, then they can expect to raise close to 140k. I can’t help but hear of things like this and thinking of a recent interview I watched with the man who created Go Fund Me. He started an app that as he states, “hosts popularity contests where if you lose, you die.” It’s a tragic recession indicator that the top 1%, (or more like the top ten people) has enough to solve all of our worlds many times over and instead have chosen to watch us scrounge together our minimal resources to support each other in times of need. I am so happy to see such charity come from this production. It is so incredible to see people willing to give so much for others, and in the same breath, it is a tragedy that this is what’s necessary in our current world. Maybe I get too political with these… good job ART for using your platform to raise necessary funds.

I am obsessed with this show! I did not end up being able to see it while I was in New York over fall break, but I have heard incredible things about it. And I love Neil Patrick Haris and James Corden. I also love Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, they are truly an incredible organization that does incredible work. So I could not think of a better pairing than these two entities. Also it just fits so well with the theme and topics of the show to auction of some art at ART. God I love clever marketing when done well. Marketing like this can get really cheesy really fast, but I thing that they have done a nice job of toeing that line and having just enough cheese to make it funny and interesting so people click on it, but not too much where people are very annoyed.
