I am extremely happy that Theatre J and Mosiac Theatre have partnered up to Aid Ukrainian charities by hosting a benefit reading of short Ukrainian plays based on what the play rights are experiencing in their war torn countries. For weeks now president Vladimir Putin‘s ruthless invasion of Ukraine has caused hundreds of civilian casualties and inflicted war crimes on an international level unlike ever seen before in modern history. It is very nice to see theatrical organizations raise money in a productive way while also highlighting work that would otherwise not be usually seen by an American audience. I think the entertainment industry has not done enough to address the issue in Ukraine, particularly with the Grammys were all they did was show a black screen with the phrase #Ukraine during a commercial break. The event is very smartly making the event pay what you choose with suggested levels of donation beginning at $50 and I really like that there’s a post show discussion to make sure that the audience goes away with profound thought towards the situation. Hope that performances like these wont have to be done any longer soon.
