Sami Miró On Her Five Custom Looks for Rosalía
News | CFDA: Despite having a less than typical pathway into fashion, Sami Miró has managed to win over the hearts of the industry and consumers alike. Her unique penchant for reworking vintage clothing has jolted her business and is frequently endorsed by prominent celebrities like Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner. Thanks to the power of social media, the CFDA Interim Member is one of the most exciting young designers.

I think that work surrounding reclaiming/restoring vintage clothes. A huge parallel between the fashion and theatre industry is large amounts of material waste from the production of art and performance. Theatre minimizes this by reclaiming old material, but fashion has a way of making old things new while maintaining the essence of the old piece in the final design. I think modern fashion is moving towards more sustainability slowly but surely, and high end designers and stylists are pioneering the field. Miro’s usage of a mixture of upcycled materials to create entirely new pieces and reclaimed vintage finds with her signature twist is so good. I love that designers like this are being given mainstream platforms that can further the role of sustainability in fashion. Especially sustainability in high fashion because of high fashion’s tendency to create many pieces for one show and let them sit for years without use afterwards.
There’s no other way of saying this, I am obsessed with Rosalía. Not only do I think her music is truly incredibly unique, but I must also admit I’ve always admired her outfits. Reading about Sam Miró, Rosalías fashion designer, offers an insight into Rosalía’s art. The juxtaposed vintage/modern feel perfectly encapsulated, in my opinion, Rosalía’s approach to music. The reworked vintage motorcycle jacket with the long red satin and lace vintage negligee and multi-layered leg warmers encompassed Rosalía’s personality and vision perfectly. It’s exactly what “Motomami” (her newest album) calls for.
On another note, I‘ve recently been thinking about the role of fashion designers. As the article points out, Sam Miró styles other prominent celebrities like Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner. I guess I’m just curious as to how she tailors looks to each celebrity. Granted, her work has a signature Miró feature, but how do you make sure it’s all unique.
I have personally never heard of either of these people before, but I am a huge lover of vintage and up cycled vintage. Just from the few pictures in the article it seems like Sami Miró has a really cool style and I think that I would love her vintage collection. I am all here for the trend of bringing back vintage and vintage inspires looks and items as a way of fashion but also as a way of keeping some of the fast fashion companies at bay. If more and more celebrities begin to wear and promote companies and designers that work in the sustainable and vintage fashion realms then the more likely those kinds of sales are to become mainstream. I hope that this trend continues. So yay for Sami Miró and I hope that she gets a lot more work styling celebrities and getting the vintage trend out there.
