Gabby Giffords Hopes Hollywood Can Help Fight Gun Violence
Variety: One of Gabby Giffords’ priorities for 2021 is to forge relationships with writers, producers, celebrities and decision-makers in Hollywood who can leverage their powerful platforms to speak out against gun violence, call for commonsense laws and support local community efforts to raise awareness about gun safety.

This was such an interesting article! I was sucked in by wondering how teaming up with Hollywood would help reduce gun violence. She said that “Part of our mission at Giffords is to change the culture around gun violence, and few industries play a larger role in shaping culture than the entertainment industry.” I think this approach is broad and will work in the long run to help shift the masses thoughts towards guns. Right now, mass shootings have are a big part of American culture wether we like it a lot. Before the pandemic there was at least 1 mass shooting every month for the last few years and that’s just not okay. Kelly said she used the be a gun owner until she was shot herself and then became an activist. Her approach is definitely different then the usual gun control bills, background checks, and focus on mental health and illegal weapons trade.
