This is the sad and harsh truth of the pandemic. Production companies are falling apart with the loss of income, and not all productions will be able to push through to reopen when it is safe to open theaters. Frozen was one of the first Broadway productions to announce it will not be reopening its doors. Mean Girls now gets to add themselves to the list. I have yet to see it, and I hope their tour is unharmed. Ashley Park has still made a name for herself between Emily in Paris and the Ratatouille musical, both airing since the pandemic closed Broadway’s doors. At least Mean Girls already had made back their capital before the closure. I feel terrible for Six that closed its doors on its opening night. I am sure previews were excellent, and I hope to attend its return one day. It is sad to think about companies on and off Broadway who have less money to support them and keep them afloat. I am excited that the musical adaption of Mean Girls will bring its way to the big screen when that is safe, and I hope the finances of that production are fairly and generously distributed across the board to those involved in the musical.
