Over the last few months, news of vaccinations starting has given many of us hope of an end of the pandemic-- however far off that is still, a vaccine is a solid step in the right direction. Between news articles or family and friends sending pictures as people were eligible to get their first doses, I think there still is that element of hope. But, as this article points out, there is still a lot of work and logistics to deal with. Last year, New York City was the site of some of the highest case numbers in the country for a period of time, and the entire country is still in the midst of this pandemic; the world of art has been really hard hit for a long time. Getting those vaccines out to healthcare workers, elder or at risk folks, and others as more are eligible is crucial. It is, however, only part of our battle, as we must also all continue to follow proper guidelines and wear masks.

This is a tough read. It is so sad that we are in this situation. I spent hours over the course of a week trying to get vaccine appointments for my family. Countless appointments across the country have been cancelled while vaccines go to waste. Even still, the vaccine may not be adequately effective for the newer strands of the virus. While many are able to work from home, those who can’t are relying on proper distribution of the vaccines to the general public. A vaccine cancelation can mean the difference in someone’s survival if they catch the virus between when they were originally scheduled to have the vaccine. It is a terrible truth. Too many people have been lost already. In New York, the websites are challenging to navigate as a 20 year old. My grandmother does not even have a computer if she were to try to make an appointment herself, and the phone hotline is for the entire state and rarely operates. The whole situation is a mess and needs to be resolved fast.
