3 Networking DON'Ts
ExhibiTricks: The Museum Exhibit Design Blog: I was delighted to speak at the recent NYCMER (New York Museum Educator's Roundtable) Career Symposium on the subject of "Building a Network" alongside two excellent co-presenters, Kinneret Kohn and Leah Golubchick.
While we covered a number of great networking tips and tricks, my part of the session focused on 3 Networking DON'Ts

Though I haven't applied for a job yet, and most internships I have applied to so far are all online, these networking hacks were very interesting to learn and keep in mind! I do not know when I would be using these tips, but things like business cards were something I had never thought of. I always thought business cards were something you would get once hired at an institution, but I see how having one for yourself independently would be nice for whoever you give it to. For the never hiding work tip, however, I feel as though showcasing your portfolio, especially in the entertainment/ artistic fields, is definitely important. However, I think they should have also included that you should showcase your best work, not something you are not proud of. But definitely not be shy about the work you like, to ensure that you are the right match for the given company.
