CMU Expands Asymptomatic COVID-19 Testing with High-Volume, On-Campus Lab

www.cmu.edu/news: After months of planning, Carnegie Mellon University is unveiling a new testing strategy, including the opening of its own on-campus laboratory, that enhances the way CMU detects and prevents the spread of COVID-19 within its community. The Tartan COVID-19 Asymptomatic Testing Program, or Tartan Testing for short, will allow all asymptomatic Carnegie Mellon students, faculty and staff in the Pittsburgh area — as well as on-campus dining and custodial affiliates — to be tested once a week throughout the spring semester.

I’m sure a lot of us have seen the emails about this come through our inboxes in the last few months, but having this give a deeper explanation of how Tartan Testing has been re-developed from last semester was great to read and understand. They are currently ramping up to include everyone in the weekly testing, but is currently by invitation only. I am amazed by the amount of work that has gone into this, from developing and creating the lap to process the results, to being prepared to test the entire Pittsburgh community weekly. It astounded me, but I am glad that CMU is able to expand testing to this degree. For someone who deals with a significant amount of anxiety surrounding COVID, this is a huge positive for me for sure! I am grateful for this and my ability to be here in Pittsburgh largely because of the systems CMU has put in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.
