A Look at the Costumes of 'Wonder Woman 1984'
Variety: When “Wonder Woman” costume designer Lindy Hemming heard that the follow-up to the 2017 box-office hit starring Gal Gadot was going to be set in 1984, her first question was would the costumes fall under period or fantasy?
The answer is a simple one, “both,” Hemming says.

I was so excited to see this title on the blog! While I did appreciate the original film more than the sequel, the costumes are astonishing. (SPOILERS AHEAD) One of my absolute favorite parts of the movie is the credits scene. I love the cameo, but even more than that, the bracelet. To an audience member paying close attention, even beyond the gorgeous draping cloak, it can be inferred based on the bracelet that the woman is the lost warrior, Asteria before she even exhibits her super strength. Every costume choice is clearly intentional, be it a bracelet or a stunning white dress that emulates ancient times and togas. I love the idea of Lindy Hemming mixing period and fantasy to bring the world to life. It is interesting to create timeless looks, ancient looks, and looks from 1984 all in the same film. I would be remiss not to discuss Diana’s newest armor. In all of the films, Diana’s costumes also meet the challenge of functionality head on and surpass it. The answer to can she fight in this always is yes. I like that the article discusses the materials used and the choices behind it with what color it reflects. Her armor in the first movie is still my favorite. While I do not love all of the costume choices, I do think that they are all incredibly strong choices. One other simple choice that stands out to a clear eye can be seen with Kristoffer Polaha who is seen in one outfit as a different character and then meets Diana again in the same outfit.
