I think we can all agree that the inauguration this week was unlike any other-- at least that I have seen in my life. I remember hearing about the Field of Flags in the days leading up to January 20th, and seeing them during the actual ceremony on Wednesday. I wonder exactly how long it took to put that all together; I’d assume quite a long time. It is, at least for me, a reminder of how different our lives are now, a year into this pandemic. Normally, that entire area would be packed with people; just the idea of that many people in one place makes me want to reach for my mask (even as I am seated at my dining table at home). It is a reminder of how many people we have lost as well. And, it can serve as a reminder of the work that is still needed to be done, far beyond just the pandemic.
