Law & Order: SVU to "Hire Every Broadway Actor We Can" Amid Pandemic
Consequence of Sound: The hottest Broadway song of the season goes dun dun! In a recent Twitter exchange, Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight said that as the COVID-19 crisis stretches on, “We are trying to hire every Broadway actor we can while we and they wait for the curtains to rise again.”

I was so excited when I saw this announcement! While it is not a cure all, it is a great step in making strides towards helping those whose jobs are few and far between nowadays, even before the pandemic. Articles last semester addressed certain divides between the Screen Actors Guild and the Actors Equity Association. It is nice to see some more cohesion between the two industries, especially in uncertain times. At the same time, I know that these are likely small and one off roles, but it is better than nothing at this point. I usually am not an avid watcher of Law and Order: SVU, but I will try to tune in now especially in order to help with views. I hope that this is a small step in a continued partnership between the film and theatrical industries, in the pandemic and into the future. I am really glad this is being extended past Broadway to include far off Broadway as well. I hope this transfers from stars to ensemble as well, and that those who aren’t in the limelight can find new income whether they are performers or work behind the scenes.
