Mrs. Maisel's marvelous accessories come from Pittsburgh
The Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle: Scott Johnson did not set out to be a resource for Hollywood costume designers when he opened his shop, Three Rivers Vintage, seven years ago. But after getting a call from the Pittsburgh-based Netflix crime thriller “Mindhunter” to provide ’70s and ’80s apparel, word spread about his 1,200-square-foot store, located on South Side’s Carson Street, and it’s now on the radar of other film and TV crews.

I enjoy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and it was fascinating to find out that some of the accessories from the next season are going to originate in Pittsburgh. It is great that Three Rivers Vintage and Mr. Johnson have had such wonderful success on and off the screen. The costumes in the show are always impeccable. The characters each seem to have a fully developed sense of their style. Even the clothes in their closets that aren’t worn further the fashion of the character. Midge is an especially challenging character to dress because there has to be individual thought to her day to day outfits, her family gathering outfits, her religious outfits, her travel outfits, her nighttime attire, and arguably the most important, her performance outfits. They not only have to stand out individually and relate to each other, in their unique categories but also in the umbrella that is Midge and in the time period of the series.

I had a few questions after reading the article. Do they buy all the clothes or does he become a costumer and rent them out just for the show? Also I hope COVID hasn’t made him shut down. I know a lot of shows are still being worked on so hopefully he has a lot of business. I think it would be so fun to be a costume designer and go thrift shopping for movies. In high school I spent hours in the DI thrift shop where I lived looking for gems. It’s definitely one of my passions
