This article really resonates with me as I myself have thought about live sound and specifically Cirque du Soleil. I have seen three different Cirque shows over the course of 5 years and I have loved every single one of them. Two were in the round circus tent, and the middle one was in an enclosed arena. The sound for the circus tents were by far more intimate and physically present than the arena, as the arena was so much larger and therefore the sound had more space to fill. The arena also had poor acoustics that was hard to work around, whereas the tents were encapsulated sound barriers of the designers own making. I found that Christian Peterson's overview of his work to be really comprehensive and interesting to read about. His integration of multiple backups for consoles and music is especially interesting and though maybe a bit OCD, seems like a smart idea. He had really good advice about learning about networked audio and will probably follow his advice.
