This is an award that I didn’t even know existed but it sounds like Billy Porter has made it clear that it is an award that he deserves. I think it is pretty clear that Billy Porter has significant influence in New York and beyond and that the work he does is worthy of recognition. The award itself is to recognize some of the most innovative leaders in the entertainment and media industry and Billy’s work as an entertainer, activist, and director aligns itself perfectly with the award. I have also heard very good things about the current series Billy is working on Pose. It is with this sort of series that we’re working towards allowing diversity into everyone’s sphere of entertainment and hopefully normalizing the stories that people may have been categorizing as “other” beforehand. Let’s not fail to mention the numerous awards that Pose has gathered as a series as well which makes me hopeful for the future of entertainment ushering in a era of more inclusion and diversity on the forefront of entertainment. I look forward to continuing to see Billy Porter’s work and his contributions to the greater entertainment industry, go CMU!
