This seems like a great tool for costume designers to use. However, I'm personally beginning to question whether or not transforming theatre into a fully automated machine is truly the best choice. While theatres are getting closer and closer to making sure that each performance is the same product, they are also losing the beauty and mystique of theatre where anything can happen and anything can go wrong. I often find myself longing for a solution to a problem that is completely innovative rather than just technologically savvy.
Wow! Definitely a very cool and interesting DMX toy. Not only is it another tool for costuming, but I would imagine also for any situation where controllable and dimmable power is needed discreetly, such as for a small lamp on a table. The possibilities seem endless.
I do question the decision for its accompanying base station to make use of DIP switches to address itself. It would have been nice to see RDM implemented for remote addressing, especially for such a new product that they recommend hanging above the stage. Lastly, as a cost effective solution, why include RJ-45 connector style DMX when the targeted market may be more likely to still maintain a fully XLR5 infrastructure?
This seems like a great product and an awesome tool to have, but I feel that base station is slightly inconvenient to use. In its defense, it has a built in DMX terminator, very cool!!
