International Thespian Society Surpasses $1 Million Raised for BC/EFA

Stage Directions: At the Thespian Festival—the yearly convention of the International Thespian Society, the honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students—Joe Norton of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS announced that the Society has raised more than $1 million for BC/EFA. Students raise money by hosting audience appeals, silent auctions and other activities. The Thespian Society has been raising money for BC/EFA since 1999, and in his speech (a video of which is after the cut), Norton praised the students and teachers, saying “You're changing the lives of so many people.”

As an officer of an ITS troupe, i am happy to see, but in no way surprised, that so much money has been raised for BC/EFA. Throughout the year, our drama club puts on concerts, coffee houses, and other small and costless events to raise money for inspirational and worthy causes such as broadway cares. Hopefully ITS troupes will continue their philanthropic natures, but continue to not only impact the nation but also their local communities.
