Olney Theatre Center is searching for a full-time Production Manager. This position reports to the Artistic Director, is responsible for coordinating many technical activities including rehearsals, props, production of the set, sound effects and lighting. They oversee the work of the various departments and make sure they are keeping to an agreed schedule and may also oversee design budgets. The Production Manager has two full time interns, and also supervises and works closely with the Company Manager.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Drafts production calendars for all Olney Theatre Center productions and events.
  • Drafts budgets for productions and events, working closely with the Artistic Director and Department Heads.
  • Monitors expenses and budgets in all production areas
  • Maintains/updates all production calendars, including the master production calendar, individual show calendars, special events, and design deadlines
  • Reviews Production Calendar with Marketing/sales calendars to ensure all calendars match
  • Coordinates, schedules, and runs all Production Department Head Meetings
  • Coordinates, schedules, and runs all full production staff meetings (monthly)
  • Coordinates, schedules, and runs all Design/Production meetings on a per show basis
  • Attends all tech rehearsals and previews through designer release
  • Oversees day-to-day expense tracking for the Production Department
  • Oversees reconciliation of show and yearly production budgets
  • Serves as signatory for expenditures made by Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager
  • Coordinates execution of Payment Approval Request Forms for Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager
  • Obtains scripts and scores for each production
  • Executes rental contracts for all physical production elements
  • Works with Production department heads to maintain accurate production inventories for the shops and theatres
  • Serves as a liaison between designers and shop staff
  • Serves as production liaison to stage managers
  • Coordinates hiring process for full-time production staff positions
  • Supervises/mentors Production and Stage Management Interns
  • Involved in recruiting of all Production Interns
  • Participates in reviews and exit interviews for Production and Stage Management Interns
  • Facilitates coordination of Marketing/PR requests for photo and video calls, interviews, public appearances, etc (with Company Manager)
  • Hires/contracts full-time production staff and production interns
  • Negotiates rental contracts for physical production elements
  • Serves as liaison between directors and designers
  • Attends annual conferences (SETC, UPTAs) to search for production interns
  • Participates in all intern reviews and exit interviews
  • Strategically plan production department expenditures
  • Evaluate and approve shop budgets and build schedules on a per show basis
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Four years experience in theatre
  • Knowledge of:
    • Production development and administration
    • Theatrical design and technical production
    • Theatre operations and methods and techniques used in the production of live events
    • Various theatre equipment including, but not limited to, rigging, lighting and sound systems and related machinery
    • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and specialized hardware and office software applications
    • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration including time, material, and labor cost estimating
    • Principles and practices of theatre safety
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education/training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in theatre arts or a related field.
