"Freak" Weather Blamed for Ottawa Collapse
- John Huntington's Blog -: I'm traveling and haven't had time to dig up the whole report, but according to the Ottawa Citizen, "freak" weather alone was responsible for the stage roof collapse last year:
Provincial government engineers were unable to find any evidence of “structural issues” that might have contributed to the collapse, a Ministry of Labour spokesman confirmed Friday.
I'm glad to hear that the stage was apparently properly engineered and constructed!

It is fortunate that no one was seriously injured, but as Huntington points out, and I agree -- there maybe should a little more caution taken in this kind of thing. This is especially true if Huntington is correct in that that day's storm was typical for the season; if that's the case there may be more reason to worry that there was previously thought. Even if the structures themselves were sound, those in charge should be responsible for keeping a close eye on the weather, as the disastrous potential of collapses can be huge.
