Isaiah Bailey Stars in "The Phantom of the Opera" at Broadway In Chicago

www.newcitystage.com: When Isaiah Bailey came on stage near the end of last August’s Broadway In Chicago Summer Concert to perform “Music of the Night,” the audience greeted him politely. It’s the signature song from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” of course, and here was another rendition. But as soon as he took the stage, Bailey made time stand still as he quietly intoned its familiar lyrics.

I am blown away by the way this authour describes his voice it is so detailed that it feels like I can actually hear him singing the words. The Phantom of the opera is not an easy role that anyone can do, he is complicated and misunderstood and is a mysterious figure that has to almost feel ghost like and supernatural. This feeling can be incredibly hard to convey through song. This character’s voice has to come through has angry and strong, while also sirening Christine is almost in a trance like lullaby, getting to a vocal spot that does both is truly a hard task that sounds like Bailey is nailing and like Christine mesmorizing audiences. I loved getting the chance to hear from Bailey and what his approach to the song and character was, and how he never imagined him self in this role, but through deep thought and analysis of the script, he came to a point of creating a beautiful and raw interpretation of this musical theater iconic role.
