I had no idea that Kids on Broadway Night was a thing, but I'm absolutely in love with the idea. Exposure to the arts has been proven to have significant benefits to educational outcomes as well as overall social and emotional development. I love that this is a way where parents who might not feel so inclined to purchase their child a ticket because they might not see the value in it would feel compelled to bring their kids to get that exposure. I also think that because Broadway shows are commercial and have such a high production value they are especially exciting for kids to see. Having done a lot of theater with youth audiences, kids can be so perceptive and to have the experience of seeing such a high production value show is just absolutely incredible. I would also really hope that this inspires them to become more involved with their own artistic passions.
I think that this is an amazing opportunity that will bring in more younger audiences to these Broadway shows. These children deserve the chance to see Broadway productions. These shows aren't just made for the rich; they're made for our communities, they're made for our children, are sisters, brothers, families, and even the stranger on the street. I mean, when you think about it, how many shows are about a rich white man? And he's living the best life. Most of the stories that are being told are ofThe underdog or the less fortunate. Most of these stories are about people just living in the world, trying to survive and trying to find their happiness. The stories are for the world, not just for the people who can afford to see them. I am beyond excited to see the list of shows that are participating in this program, such as and Juliet, which is a beautiful story about feminism, which is so important to these young children.
Kid’s Night on Broadway is an incredible idea and I’m surprised I have never heard of it before. People continuously talk about inspiring the new generation but will only suggest different forms of advertisement. Allowing parents to see a show themselves and have an excuse to bring their kids along for free is a win for everyone. I also believe that allowing a kid to come to a show for free establishes the idea that they are allowed to be in that space. People could feel uncomfortable bringing their kids to a show due to being worried they might cause distractions or make other audience members uncomfortable. Advertising a couple days that is dedicated to younger people allows them to feel welcomed into the community. Lastly I was delighted to read that they are trying to expand Kids Night on Broadway to different cities and possible countries. Broadway's dedication to include young people into the world of theater is clear and I would love to see it expand at least around the US.
This is such a cool experience for young people to be able to see theater like Broadway at such an affordable price. I think it is so important to introduce children to art at an early age, for me growing up surrounded by art and theater I can’t imagine how happy it would’ve made me to see a broadway show. Not even just broadway alone but I just think its so important to be surrounded by art, it gives people a new way of seeing the world through a lens that isn’t just math, science, english, etc which is great yes but in my opinion some adults need to lighten up and let their kids be kids and i think the biggest part of childhood is this creativity and exploration that most adults grow out of. The list of shows participating in this was very interesting to me because I've seen a lot of the shows on this list and I wouldn't deem many of these as child friendly but that's up to the parents not me I guess. Either way, I am very happy kids night has come back to Broadway.
I’m really glad this is a thing and that so many shows participate in it. I have never heard of it until now but I love the idea behind it. It’s a really great way for kids to experience such high quality theater, witness first hand what a production can look like, and maybe even peak their interests in taking part in theater. I also love how it allows not only kids but families to go watch Broadway shows for a discounted price. With how expensive tickets tend to be, especially for a family, this opportunity is great for parents who are interested in experiencing Broadway theater with their children. It’s also great to see the variety of shows that decided to participate, allowing a show to be available for almost anybody’s interests. It’s always nice to see opportunities for kids to learn and experience new things, especially with something enjoyable like Broadway.
