Trump appoints James McCrery and others to U.S. Commission of Fine Arts
www.archpaper.com: Members of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) appointed by the Biden administration were terminated by the Trump administration in October 2025. Every CFA seat was vacant until this month, when the Trump administration began appointing members to the government agency tasked with reviewing design plans.

To get a better understanding of what any of this means, I tried to figure out exactly who each person was and what they bring to the table. The short of it is, Trump deposed any liberal/democratic Commission of Fine Arts members, and rehired those who align with his world view. (Ironic, because it’s art we’re talking about.) James McCrery specifically pertains to White House redesigns and renovations. It’s no secret that the White House is a relatively small “ruling building” when it is compared to other offices or a similar caliber, and it always has been. And don’t get me wrong I’m all for bringing back classic, ornate architecture. However, it feels incredibly tone deaf and plain wrong for the White House to be ornate and gilded while US society as a whole can barely afford the arts at all. Why does the White House get the treatment of a king? It’s supposed to be a house for the people, who used to be able to walk right up to its doors.
