What I discovered at rehearsals for TIFT’s world premiere musical All the Cows Are Dead
Intermission Magazine: On the first day of rehearsals for Ben Page’s All the Cows Are Dead, the idiosyncratic new musical premiering at Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) in Barrie, director Will Dao offered a playful instruction: “Everyone in the room should feel like a detective,” he told the cast and creative team, implying it requires focused collaboration to solve the mystery of staging a show.

After starting out incredibly strong with the title “All the Cows are Dead,” I knew I had to learn more about this show. Upon diving further into the article, I was not disappointed. This show truly looks like it is so incredibly odd that I can’t even fully comprehend how it works, and I’m kind of obsessed. It’s a mystery, and their goal is to make everyone in the audience feel like a detective, and I love an engaging story. I also adore the fact that they are using a ton of balloons and balloon animals as props and scenic elements. It gives the whole thing a sort of sense of whimsy and allows the audience to engage in the comedy and ridiculousness of the whole thing. I am still not sure exactly what will happen with/in this show, but I will definitely be following up on this one.
