‘Sex Lives of Puppets’ explores candidly carnal conversations about sex, no strings attached
Chicago Sun-Times: Nothing ruins a Las Vegas sex party like a phone call from your spouse in which she explains that she’s just discovered a lump in her breast.
Sex is messy, complicated; it is true for humans and, it turns out, for puppets too.
They have hang-ups. They’ve got saggy bits. They enjoy kinks.

So immediately after I read this article I went to the Chicago Puppet Fest website and watched the trailer for this piece, and I'm already so in love with it. I think in our society, we tend to view sex as a very dirty and taboo topic and it can be super difficult to have honest conversations about. However, I think it is easier and more comfortable for people to have these conversations when it doesn't feel like it's exactly like them. By talking about puppets having sex and not people it removes a lot of the discomfort and “gross” factor to it and instead becomes something fun and exciting to talk about. When I read the article I first thought about Avenue Q because when I saw it it had puppet sex on stage and I thought that was pretty wild because I saw it as a freshman in high school. But Avenue Q covered a lot of really difficult topics in a way that was funny and easy to engage with and I really think this piece has the potential to do the same thing.
