The Top 10 Spots to Shoot in Jordan

variety.com: With famously highly qualified crews and ease of bureaucracy, Jordan has long been a key destination for Hollywood productions, with such big-budget pics as “Dune” and “The Martian” using the country’s locations. The kingdom’s newly revamped cash rebate system — which can grant productions a return of up to 45% of local spend plus tax benefits that can add to combined savings of up to 56% — has made the country even more competitive as a fast-growing player in the Middle East and North Africa region.

While it was obvious that movies like Dune were shot in a desert, I never really knew where. I think it’s pretty cool that a lot of popular movies have been shot in Jordan. Specifically in one area, Wadi Rum, where it is home to Dune, The Martian, and Star Wars. I’ve never watched The Martian but I have seen clips and pictures of it and sometimes I would be curious how the creators simulated the planet Mars. However, I feel movies like those it’s kind of a given for it to be shot in such a beautiful landscape. Also, movies such as Transformers and Indiana Jones were shot here as well, in different areas of Jordan. Seeing that this land is such a popular spot, I do wonder how often different films end up trying to film at the same time, or is there a certain scheduling process film crews have to do to reserve the land?

This article was truly fascinating. I had always wanted to know what the best filming locations were in the country of Jordon and now I know thanks to this article. I have never been to Jordon nor have I ever considered wanting to go there, but after seeing these absolutely incredibly stunning photos and videos that were taken in these places, I now suddenly have an interest in desire to travel to this country at some point in my life and I hope that I get the opportunity to. I didn't realize so many popular movies right now were filmed in some of these various locations so it was absolutely so fascinating to see what these locations looked like in real life versus how they looked in the movie. Specifically, seeing all of the dune locations was super interesting and cool. I find those movies so beautifully filmed and the locations are truly stunning so it was so cool to see what those locations look like normally.

I had absolutely no clue that all of these movies were shot in Jordan, this is kind of crazy. While reading this article, I found it kind of shocking that certain countries such as the US or UK do not need a permit or even a work visa to shoot in Jordan, only a quickly issued entry visa. This is probably because these countries shoot films there so often, and I can only imagine what this all does for the countries economy. Jordan doesn't have much of a large population as far as I'm aware, but I know that a lot of residents live in urban areas, so I would hope that being a shooting location could cause the country to become a tourist destination which could boost the economy even more. What is strange to me though is that I can't think of any movies about Jordan from the top of my head or even really on the web. If Jordan is such a popular shooting destination, there should be a high production film that focuses on the stories that derive from there.
