The Met Unveils 2026 'Costume Art' Exhibit and New Galleries in NYC: See Pictures

The Met Gala is a really cool way to show off historical pieces along with contemporary design. I haven't invested in it like I know some people do, but I like to look at the looks when the Gala comes around each year. I like how it is always revolved around a theme, and it can definitely be shown throughout the looks. The idea of Costume art is really interesting when it comes to a Gala like this because I feel it could encompass quite a lot of things, and the article says so as well. Thinking about past years, I feel most outfits have been formal in a sense, but this again could be anything. I do like that it isn't just one specific period in time, but involves today's designs as well. I want to read more about how the design and pieces are chosen for the Met Gala and what goes into the details of the garments themselves. I wonder if the historical pieces are altered or remade completely for the model. Overall, I can't wait to see how this theme of costume art lays the foundation for this year's Met Gala.
I am a yearly watcher and follower of The Met Gala. This year - when the theme was Tailoring Black Style - I actually got to visit the Metropolitan Art Museum and see the exhibit. It was one of the most beautiful exhibits I had ever seen in my lifetime. I loved watching the live runway (and judging it based on how into it celebrities and their designers got), and getting a chance to see what they all dressed up for live was incredible. I can't wait for this Year's. From what they said in the article and the snooping I did on Social Media, I am hoping to see some beautiful, historical looks on celebrities. It's Costume Art, this one better match up to "Heavenly Bodies" or "Camp," (I'd be thrilled.)
