I recently visited Six Flags Over Georgia, and it was fairly clear to me that they must not be doing well as a company. Granted, they aren’t Disney or Universal, prioritizing excellent thematic storytelling whilst also delivering excellent guest experiences. But it was clear that maintenance was lacking and budgets had been cut. The pandemic certainly wasn’t kind to Six Flags or Cedar Fair, but I wasn’t really aware of the extent of the damage until now. To be fair, the parks were never trying to be as grand as their higher-end competitors, but they still delivered on a few thrilling and unique experiences thanks to their very coaster-heavy lineup of attractions. What’s so fascinating to me about the story of Six Flags America is that they expanded the park literally last year, and have now thrown away all of that capital investment as the park shuts down. Perhaps the expansion was a failed last ditch effort to save the park.
