I think that this is a brilliant marketing idea! After casting a famous and viral vocal coach, it was brilliant for the marketing team to come up with promo opportunities and special performances to get more tickets sold and more seats filled! The idea of holding a special showing of the Broadway show as a sing-along along I think, is so much fun, and then having a cast member who is famous for vocal coaching lead the sing-along audience in a house-wide vocal warm-up before the show is an amazing way to get the audience hyped up and excited for the performance they are about to enjoy and be a part of. Creating a special night that invites the audience to join the performance and really engage in this show is such a welcoming and community-building experience of getting hundreds of people to sing their hearts out with strangers sitting right next to them.

I think that this is just so cool! Mama Cheryl is a social media star! She always seems so happy and so kind! I love watching the videos of her warmups with vocalists that are oftentimes in a car for some reason! Her vibe is just infectious! Anyways, as an & Juliet fan I am sure that Mama Cheryl is an amazing Angelique! Additionally, I think that having a sing along performance is such a cool idea! I bet they have a great marketing team! A sing along performance is perfect for a show like & Juliet. I saw it when it came on tour to Houston, and I loved the show! I definitely wanted to sing along with the actors! I think that overall & Juliet was a great show. It was extremely entertaining! It obviously is not telling the deepest story, but that is not what you should be expecting when going to see this.

I’m intrigued by this article, but in classic Broadway World fashion they neglect to include details that would make this a more understandable action. My assumption is that this was a sing-along performance based on the 30 second clip that was included in the article. I wonder why a sing-along performance was a choice that was made. Is it common in New York for shows to eventually do a sing-along performance or is this a choice that was made because this is another jukebox musical that is losing steam, so to try to revive the run a little bit they’ve created these “limited” opportunity sing-along performances. Cheryl Porter is a powerhouse vocal coach, but I wonder why she was give less than 2 minutes to warm-up the audience. Presumably this is an evening performance and so the assumption was the audience should be “warmed” up from a full day of talking and interaction in their every day life that they don’t need much more than a reminder that this is a sing-along performance and that they are welcome to participate as such.
