Alamo Drafthouse Promises No Ads That Waste Your Time at the Movies in New Video

collider.com: The last thing anyone wants to do with their limited time on Earth is watch ads. Least of all, nobody wants to be stuck sitting through promotions they don't remotely care about while trying to do something they love, like going to the movies.

This feels like sacrilege to say, but I really love the movie theater ads as long as they're trailers. They usually keep it pretty on genre to what you’re seeing, and I like it as a good opportunity to note upcoming films I may not have heard of and when to see them. I could very well do away with ever seeing an ad for a product (and I’m lumping Disney in with that) ever again, and would gladly pay more to avoid it I never mind being advertised new art. The art of a movie trailer too is something that could not be more important for the success of a movie. I love the idea and am happy the option exists elsewhere for people to be completely ad free but I will begrudgingly march to the AMC and let Nicole Kidman show me what else is coming out soon.

I really don’t know how to feel about this. While yes, I do sometimes feel like movie theater ads can stretch too long, I feel like it's an essential part of the experience. I couldn’t imagine going to the movies and not accounting for 30 minutes' worth of ads and not seeing them. Not only is it part of the experience and vibe, but many times I’ve discovered movies I’m interested in through these ads, and I really do appreciate them at the end of the day. I’ve loved going to Alamo Drafthouse as a treat sometimes, considering their popcorn and food service is incredible and awesome, but this might actually make me not go really at all unless my friends want to. It just doesn’t feel right to go to the movies and not see ads at all. Now I can understand why some others would appreciate this and would now flock to Alamo Drafthouse instead of other theaters, but I don’t think it will ever really be for me, and I’ll be sad if other movie theaters start to do the same.
