PHANTOM Moves Closer to New York City Return, Announcement Imminent?
www.broadwayworld.com: The Phantom of the Opera may be getting closer to its New York City return! As BroadwayWorld previously announced, an immersive production of the iconic musical is in the works. The musical's composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, also confirmed last year that plans for this production were underway.

This is a bit surprising to hear. I always thought Phantom was going to be on Broadway forever. I went to NYC twice and it was something that I wanted to see, but I didn't see it on either of those trips because I knew there would be other opportunities. I just really thought it would pretty much always be running, and then suddenly it was closing and I never got a chance to see it. BUT, last week I got the chance to see it in the West End. I knew I just needed to see it at some point and I'm glad I took the chance too. I was super impressed by the tech of it. The set was so elaborate and giant. There were so many different moving pieces, and when I thought they couldn't possibly be storing any more set pieces backstage, another giant one would appear. And with such a large cast, I was definitely considering the stage manager and how on top of it they would have to be. It was very impressive. I loved the lighting as well, and all of the automation/rigging. It was certainly very full and I never got bored watching the technical aspects.
I think it's funny that they made a mysterious instagram and I like that they're following the themes within the play. I also just think it's interesting that they're making a return so soon after leaving. I wonder if it will be the same production or if it will be more of a revivial.
I honestly thought that Phantom would never freaking close but here we are. Its run will forever be iconic, and it had gotten to the point where it was just a permanent part of the New York scene. So, when it closed last year, I was really shocked. But now, with it returning so soon with an immersive version, it kind of feels both weird and expected at the same time. On one hand, I didn't think it would be back this quickly, I figured it might be a few years before we saw anything Phantom related again. But then again, it’s The Phantom of the Opera, and it’s just one of those shows that people can’t seem to get enough of. It has this timeless appeal, so the fact that it’s coming back in a new form makes sense. It’s almost like a new chapter for the show, but still, I’m not fully ready to believe it’s back yet! I can’t wait to see how they’re going to reinvent it, though.
To say that I am shocked about this is an understatement, especially because this is like within the last year or two of the show leaving Broadway when they're already planning for it to come back. I never got to see it, so this would be great for me I didn't understand that this is a more immersive production of Phantom of the Opera, but the show ran for many years on Broadway I mean, it was the longest-running show, so I'm very excited shocked and kind of confused why it's coming back to Broadway, but I will likely see it nonetheless. This is such a classic and well-known show, so I'm very excited that it's moving closer to a return in the city. I wonder how successful it'll be and where it'll run and how long it'll run for and all the sort of Nitty Gritty details like that.
