Pittsburgh Opera’s “Madama Butterfly” Opens Saturday Night

onstagepittsburgh.com: Saturday evening, March 22, Pittsburgh Opera will give this season’s first performance of Puccini’s classic Madama Butterfly. In this new production, the story is moved to a realm “where reality and dreams intersect.” Chris Cox, Director of Marketing and Communications for Pittsburgh Opera, recently took the time to discuss the production with stage director Melanie Bacaling

So cool! I do not know the opera Madama Butterfly at all but in highschool I did read the play M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang in high school and had such an enjoyable reading experience and really liked it. I greatly appreciate opera as a theatrical form and I think Madama Butterfly would most likely be a show I like since I liked the play. I have also never seen a show from the Pittsburgh Opera, but I would very much like to at some point, especially since I know that our prop team works with them often in order to help their shows and they look like they put on good work. I think that M Butterfly would be a really interesting play to put on at CMU though I think things could start to get a bit challenging with the content and race conversations in the play.
