Watch Out for Free Online File Converters That Are Actually Malware

Lifehacker: Converting a .pdf to a .docx and back again may seem like a quick and easy thing you can do online for free—but that doesn't mean it's safe. A new notice from the FBI Denver Field Office warns that some online document converters are also loading malware onto unsuspecting users' computers, giving bad actors access to your device and your data.

The Danger of the web! But in all seriousness there will always be someone or some group trying to make some money. Unfortunately, instead of just trying to impersonate legit companies, family members, or a part of the government and using that “trust” to steal your money, they can make money through your data! Even legit companies will try to accumulate your generated data. The terabytes and petabytes of data that is accumulating in profiles and vaults is staggering and will be used against you and the flow of information will guide companies, markets, and economies. The scary thing is that what was only scary in sci fi books and movies is real and legitimized by governments and ruling bodies that are either too slow or paid off to curtail the “free market”. The free market is termed and used loosely because it is only free for corporations that have the money to control the speed that that our society moves in, in at least a few branches.
